Rotary cutters and 45mm blades for quilting, patchwork and dressmaking. Everything here is 45mm, the size most quilters settle on, and every blade fits Olfa and Fiskars cutters as well as ours.

What to buy first

If you are starting out, a cutter with a spare blade and a self-healing mat will take you a long way. The mat matters more than people expect: cutting on a hard surface blunts a blade quickly and marks the table.

Cutters

All three of our cutters are the same tool, with a 45mm blade, a press-to-lock safety button and a handle that works left or right handed. They differ only in the spare blades included, so pick on spares rather than on the cutter itself.

Blades

Two options. Plain Japanese SKS-7 steel in packs of ten suits quilting cotton and is the cheaper choice per blade. Titanium coated blades in packs of five hold their edge longer and are worth it for denim, canvas or cutting several layers at once.

Change a blade when it starts skipping threads or needs a second pass. Pressing harder is what produces wavy cuts and sore wrists.

Guides

Our blog covers the questions that come up most: which rotary cutter size to choose, steel or titanium blades, how to change a blade safely, and rotary cutter safety.

Prices in GBP. Driffy is a UK brand.
